COURAGE AND DETERMINATION MEET FACE TO FACE
Jet and Cody’s Story
Two young boys were brought together recently by their individual courage and determination — one courageously battling cancer, the other determined in his quest to make a difference in this world. On Friday, August 8th, Cody Clark from Heckston (near North Grenville) visited Jet Leslie at CHEO with one of his signature “Cody Individual Comfort Kits”.
Eight-year old Cody Clark began his “Comfort Kits” project in October 2002. Cody’s own family has been touched closely by cancer and, as a way of coping, has channeled his energy and determination by undertaking this project. To date, he has delivered more than 50 comfort kits to patients at the Kemptville District Hospital. August 8th marked his first official visit with a CHEO patient. Cody, a visionary, hopes to be able to expand his activities at CHEO and to someday enable the delivery of Cody’s Comfort Kits to all hospitals across Canada.
Ten-year old Jet Leslie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (a type of bone cancer) in June 2003. Behind the wide infectious grin that lights up his face lies strength, courage and determination. He gleans strength from those who surround him, from his closest family members and friends, from the members of his community in Arnprior, and from the dedicated staff at CHEO who care for him. An avid sports enthusiast before his diagnosis, he maintains that he will once again play sports when all of this is behind him.
Cody and Jet are sources of inspiration for their loved ones and for those whose lives they touch. They are heroes in their own right!
