Professor Joe Souza brings 44 years of martial arts experience
to this event. He began his martial arts studies in 1957 under
the late Prof. John Cahill, who was a direct descendant of Professor
Henry S. Okazaki. After Professor Cahill's death in 1962, Joe assisted
Professor Willy Cahill with the opening of Cahill's Judo Academy
in 1963. Up until his recent relocation to the Central Valley,
Professor Souza was the senior instructor at Cahill's Judo Academy.
Professor Souza has studied three disciplines - Judo, Jujitsu
and Kenpo Karate. He has molded these three disciplines into what
he calls Kensujitsu. Kensujitsu represents all three disciplines,
with the Ken for Kenpo Karate, the Su for the founder Souza, as
well as the Jitsu for Judo and Jujitsu. Kensujitsu brings the full
contact and understanding of balance from Judo, the high pain compliance
and transitional flow of Jujitsu, and the principles of Kenpo to
deliver maximum power and efficient use of energy.
Professor Souza has served as national registration chairman for
a number of years, was named to the Jujitsu America Black Belt
Hall of Fame in 1999, and is currently the 1st Vice President of
Jujitsu America.
He is ranked as a Shichidan, 7th Degree Black Belt, with Jujitsu
America and holds the title of Professor.
