Thiago Alves Araujo (born October 3, 1983) is a professional Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter. Alves, who started training in Muay Thai when he was 15 and mixed martial arts at 17, is a Brazilian Muay Thai champion with a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He is currently a Welterweight fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where, as of the end of 2006, he has compiled a record of 4-2 in UFC competition. After his sixth fight for the UFC, a victory against Tony DeSouza, Alves tested positive for a diuretic, Spironolactone, which he supposedly used to lose water weight, in order to reach the 170 pound Welterweight weight limit.
He is currently associated and trains with American Top Team.
In his last fight, Alves defeated Japanese fighter Kuniyoshi Hironaka at UFC Fight Night 11.
