Moni Aizik, Founder and Chief Instructor for all of the Combat Survival Reality Based Institute programs which include Commando Krav Maga, T.O.P. Law Enforcement, Smartsafe: Women’s Self Empowerment, WIN! Real Life Skills for Kids, and Elite Combat Fitness.
At the age of 8, Moni started training in Jiu Jitsu and Judo under Opa Schutte, who was only two generations away from the founder of Kodokan Judo, Jigoro Kano. Throughout his youth, Moni dominated Israel’s competitive scene, winning 6 national titles. When Moni enrolled for his military service, the Israeli military gave Moni special privileges, known as sportay mitzien (excellent sportsman privilege). Moni gave up those special privileges and opted to join an elite group of Israeli Special Forces Commandos responsible for counter-terrorism and intelligence gathering behind enemy lines.
Because he had extensive martial arts training and battlefield experience, shortly after the Yom Kippur War, Moni was asked to help enhance the existing hand-to-hand combat system for certain special units. Moni experimented with combative tactics and techniques from Krav Maga, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Muay Thai and other fighting systems under the most stressful situations. In his findings, he noted that:
- moves requiring more than 2 gross motor skills would rarely work under stress;
- you cannot rely on strength because there is always someone stronger
- it is much more realistic to train with dynamic, non-cooperative attackers rather
than static, cooperative attackers
Moni concluded that you must train the way you would fight, creating the first ever Pressure Test in reality-based training. Through rigorous field testing under the most realistic conditions, Moni created new and practical techniques, evolved existing techniques and implemented his Pressure Test to create Commando Krav Maga.
After his service to the IDF, Moni continued with his martial arts roots and opened one of the top training schools in Israel, Maccabi Tel Aviv, and he won another National title as an adult. Maccabi Tel Aviv was quickly becoming recognized as the defacto national training center in multiple styles as Moni’s students swept many National titles for individual tournaments and team competitions. In addition, Moni would frequently travel to Japan to study the technical wizardry of World Judo and Sambo Champions Isao Okano and Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki.
Among Moni’s best Israeli students: Avi Nardia, one of the leading counter terrorism instructors in the world, and Yael Arad, Israel’s first Olympic and World medallist.
In the 1980s, Moni introduced his system of Krav Maga in Canada at the Jewish Community Center in Toronto. He would later go on to demonstrate his abilities in elite instruction by establishing one of the most successful martial arts schools offering multiple systems in Canada, the Samurai Club. Like Moni’s school in Israel, his students at the Samurai Club dominated the Judo and Jiu Jitsu tournament scene sweeping Gold medals at almost every meet. The Samurai Club was also the first school in Canada to formally teach Israeli Fighting Systems.
Some of Moni’s most successful Canadian students include UFC Champion, Carlos Newton, Shooto star, Joel Gerson, UFC fighter, Mark Bocek and others.
The combination of Moni’s outstanding achievements as a world class coach and former national champion along with his military background makes him one of the most distinguished reality-based instructors in the world. Moni has the uncanny ability to bring out the champion in people by helping them go beyond their perceived mental and physical limits.
In 2004, Moni officially released Commando Krav Maga in its modern form to the civilian sector around the world. Due to CKM’s explosive popularity and high demand, Moni launched the CKM Instructor Certification Course/Intensive Boot Camp in 2005. Following Commando Krav Maga, Moni introduced his revolutionary conditioning system, Elite Combat Fitness, in 2008. By 2009, Moni launched the T.O.P. Instructor program for the law enforcement sector, the smartsafe program for women (aka WCKM) and the WIN program for children. In doing so, Moni established the most complete and comprehensive reality-based organization in the world – the Combat Survival Reality Based Institute.
