Monua has been studying under Professor LL Cary since 1992. She has competed and won numerous JuJitsu and Karate Grand Championships. In 1995, she became the first American woman to win the Gold Medal in Sport JuJitsu. She won that title at the 6th World JuJitsu Championships (WCJJO) held in Auckland, New Zealand. She is currently the Head Coach for the US JuJitsu Team. She is also an instructor for Champion Martial Arts and leads classes including Women’s Self Protection.
Monua was born in Memphis, TN and has been in Reno, NV since 1968. She is married and has five children and nine grandchildren. She has worked in the insurance industry for twenty years. She also modeled for the BBW Magazine for a short period. Monua has written a novel and is in the midst of getting it published. She has high hopes for a screenplay that she has just finished. She is currently a small business owner in Northern Nevada.
As the Head Coach for the US JuJitsu Team, several of her students have gone on to win their own victories. Brandon Congdon became the Intercontinental Blackbelt Lightweight Champion. Cynthia Godwin became the Women’s Middleweight Gold Medalist in the US-Canada Championships. Justin Ferranto placed in the last World Championships held in Jersey, Chanel Islands in 2007.
