Fumio Demura was born in Yokohama, Japan in 1938. He is a Japanese martial artist and martial arts teacher and he is a 9th dan in Shitō-ryū, holding the title of shihan. He lives in Southern California, but spends much of his time touring in the USA and abroad as a teacher and an official. He teaches Karate in many U.S. states and in more than 24 countries. He has lived in the United States for over 40 years, but he remains a Japanese citizen. He is also well known for his many movie appearances. (Biography)

Emil Farkas is a Hungarian-born American stunt-coordinator, author and martial arts instructor. He started his marital arts career while still a youngster, and before he was 20, he had earned his black belt in both Judo and Karate. He is considered one of Hollywood’s most respected fight choreographers and he is internationally recognized as an authority on martial arts. Farkas holds a 7th degree Black Belt in Karate, 4th degree Black Belt in Judo and a 4th degree Black Belt in Ju-Jitsu. He is one of America's foremost Martial Arts Historians. (Biography)

The great karate master Gichin Funakoshi was a key pioneer in the development of modern karate. In fact, he was the "prime mover" in bringing traditional Okinawan karate to Japan. He himself was caught in the great wave of social change sweeping through Japan and its prefectures. His contributions include authoring several of the first publications describing the previously secret art of karate, strengthening the connection between character development and karate training, and the development of modern teaching methods. Masatoshi Nakayama ( 1913–1987) was a high-ranking master of Shotokan karate-dō, the first in Shotokan to be credited with the rank of 9th dan while alive. He was posthumously awarded a 10th dan in 1987. Nakayama was born in the Yamaguchi prefecture. He began studying karate after enrolling in Takushoku University in 1932, where he trained under Gichin Funakoshi and Funakoshi's son Gigo. Nakayama had studied Chinese language at the University and went to China as an interpreter and as part of the Japanese occupation of China in 1937; he was repatriated to Japan in 1946.
