Chun Kuk Do (pronounced chun gook do) means The Universal Way. It was originally developed by Chuck Norris during his unprecedented fighting career as a more complete martial arts system. Through his training and studies, Mr. Norris integrated elements of several other styles into his own Tang Soo Do foundation, creating a unique style that would not only serve him well, but that would also provide a foundation for continuing innovation by himself and his students. Chun Kuk Do utilizes kicking and striking as well as forms of grappling, including jiu-jitsu. Chun Kuk Do is more than just a fighting style. It is a way of life. Mr. Norris set out 12 points which have become the Code of Ethics which he adheres to in his own life and which is taught in all Chun Kuk Do schools.

They begin with I Will:

Develop myself to the maximum of my potential in all ways

Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to greater achievements

Always be in a positive frame of mind and convey this feeling to every person that I meet

Continually work at developing love, happiness and loyalty in my family and acknowledge that no other success can compensate for failure in the home

Look for the good in all people and make them feel worthwhile

Say nothing if I have nothing good to say about a person

Give so much time to the improvement of myself that I will have no time to criticize others

Always be as enthusiastic about the success of others as a I am about my own

Maintain an attitude of open-mindedness toward another person’s viewpoint, while still holding fast to that which I know to be true and honest

Maintain respect for those in authority and demonstrate this respect at all times

Always remain loyal to God, my country, my family, and my friends

Remain highly goal-oriented throughout my life, because that positive attitude helps my family, my country, and myself

Chun Kuk Do students and black belts make up the United Fighting Arts Federation (UFAF), an organization which serves to meet the needs of its members and member schools, and which sets the standards and requirements for advancement in Chun Kuk Do; providing leadership and a network of people who are linked by their love of a common art. Chun Kuk Do is a “hard” art in addition to a spiritual one. It incorporates many striking techniques – punches and kicks – as well as grappling moves.

The end result? A well-rounded and practical fighting art.
