Put An End to Senior Suffering Open Archery Tournament

Laguna Woods Archery Club is helping to but an END to senior suffering. An END is a round of arrows shot during an archery event, usually 6 arrows. The Laguna Woods Archery Club, is one of about 250 clubs in the senior community of Laguna Woods Village and they have been working on bringing archery into their community for more than 3 years. They have put on two previous archery events for Laguna Woods Village, and now, with the sponsorship of USA Archery, the Olympic sanctioning body for the sport, they put on the first ever Put An End to Senior Suffering Open Archery Tournament Laguna Woods Village on Saturday, November 7, 2015. In addition to awards for top scorers, all archers were entered into an appreciation raffle and the club gave away all kinds of gifts from local businesses including dinner packages, movie packages, spa packages, archery store gift certificates and many other great appreciation gifts.

A MEDIA DAY was held prior to the November 7th Event, on October 28, 2015 at Mile Square Park, Archery Range in Fountain Valley CA. Laguna Woods Archery Club members, including Gordon Richiusa, Laguna Woods Archery Club president was on hand, along with many members of the club, to pose for photographs and/or video, to answer questions, and to explain the genesis of the concept of “Put An End to Senior Suffering”. A list of partner businesses, which have goods and services, donated to a participants raffle for archer-participants at the Open, will also be made available at that time.

Archery has recently become a very popular sport due in part to movies like Brave and Hunger Games, and television shows like Arrow. Archery is currently the fastest growing sport in the nation in all demographics, and according to the National Safety Council, archery is one of the safest sports, only slightly more dangerous than billiards.

ARCHERY FACTS:
In the world of competitive archery the word used to describe a full event is called a round, just as in golf. During each round, an archer steps to a shooting line and releases a predetermined number of arrows toward a target, usually three. This series of arrows is called an END.

Two months ago, Gordon Richiusa—president of Laguna Woods Archery Club–went to Palm Springs and assisted with an annual golf tournament for Michael’s House. Gordan organized an archery booth, as an add-on to golf. There were 100 golfers and an estimated 150 archers who helped, “Put An End to Addiction.”

Katuna Lorig, Jennifer Lawrence’s teacher for the HUNGER GAMES, is a USA Archery Member and just made the USA Olympic Archery Team for Rio.
