Come train in the once banned art of Hawaiian Lua with Ron Burns, Greg Shaner, Michelle Manu, and other Kumu (teachers) and learn about Heroes’ Hearts and the documentary, PIECES OF ALOHA with Gordan Richiusa. This event is open for both children and adults and spectators are welcome! 

WHERE: 

Super Sports Golf & Recreation Center, 2190 N. Canal Street, Orange, CA 92865. 

WHEN: 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 26th 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

WHAT: 

Kumu (teachers) in the Kaihewalu Lua, a modern form of the ancient Hawaiian combat warrior martial arts. The Kumu will share Hawaiian culture, movements, and techniques that show the effectiveness of the Hawaiian warrior art with an emphasis on applying this knowledge in today’s world. 

WHY: 

The primary intent of this great event is to promote and perpetuate the Hawaiian art of Lua on the Continental U.S. to all those interested in learning the art’s combat maneuvers. This art was once banned from public display and hidden within the Hula dance. Like every year, hosts Kumu Ron Burns and Kumu Greg Shaner have opened this event to all participants and spectators. 

COST: $40 at the door. Children $20 (12-18 years). Spectators $5. 

Special Guest Gordon Richiusa, is an author, teacher, and founder of Heroes’ Hearts Inc. He will speak briefly about the Heroes’ Hearts Documentary-in-the-works, PIECES OF ALOHA, and the many other related projects and partnerships with Michelle Manu, including The Reconciliation Project, Archery Project, and Heroes’ Helping Heroes. 

NOTE(S): 

*Gordon’s father, a Pearl Harbor Survivor, offered a new way of looking at the battle with the Japanese on December 7th, 1941. His views spawned the nonprofit, Heroes’ Hearts Inc., whose motto is “Do Something Good”. 

*Attendees will have opportunities to vie for scholarships and prizes which relate to the subjects of discussion. 

*Photos and video will be made available to legitimate news representatives upon request. 

All fees are tax deductible and will be waived for members of the press.
